Amazon's custom Rivian-made electric vehicles are now delivering in some US cities

Don't be shocked if one of Rivian's electric vans delivers your next Amazon order. Rivian has confirmed that its bespoke EVs are now transporting goods across the United States, according to Amazon. They can be found in a variety of cities, including Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas, Kansas City, Nashville, Phoenix, San Diego, Seattle and St. Louis. By the end of 2022, the company expects the vehicles to service over 100 cities worldwide and still aim for 100000 cars by 2030.

Amazon's introduction has been problematic, to say the least. The online retailer began testing Rivian's van in Los Angeles last year and planned to deploy them in as many as 16 cities by the end of 2021. Despite this, the rollout was sluggish; San Francisco being the most notable exception.

The Rivian cargo carrier is intended to assist Amazon in achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, but it also signifies a technological advance. The driver aids on the bespoke trucks include automatic emergency braking and highway assistance, which are of course important features. They naturally utilize Alexa to help drivers check the weather and other things.

A partnership between Rivian and Amazon may help the firm's earnings. As of early 2021, Amazon owned 20% of Rivian — it stands to profit if its automotive partner succeeds. It's also no secret that Rivian is on a cost-cutting path in order to boost production. It requires as many clients as it can get, especially since Amazon is planning to expand its services.
