Play and shuffle buttons added to all playlists and albums on Spotify
Spotify is altering its interface to make it simpler to determine whether you'll be listening to a playlist or an album on shuffle. This follows after Spotify altered the shuffle vs. play design in response to Adele's criticism last year.
Adele called on Spotify to change the default playback behavior with the release of her album 30 last year, as we reported at the time. When Adele complained that Spotify's original shuffle choice was undesirable, she requested that the streaming service alter it so that customers could hear the music "as intended." Since then, Spotify has used a play + shuffle button on albums and playlists. With today's update, Spotify is further clarifying matters by providing separate shuffle and play buttons to all playlists and albums.
The new version will allow you to select the mode you want at the top of playlists and albums, whether it's Shuffle or Play in Order. Spotify offers you a choice whether you want to be caught off guard by Shuffle mode or just want to press Play to listen to your music in sequence.
It's worth noting that these changes only apply to Spotify Premium subscribers. Users on the ad-supported version of the service may still just listen to an album or playlist in whatever order Spotify wishes. The new regulation is now available to all Spotify clients on iOS. Ensure that you have the most up-to-date version of the app from the App Store.
