Four M142 HIMARS with GMLRS ammunition, 32 howitzers, 500 high-precision 155mm shells and 200 MaxxPro armored vehicles - Joe Biden announces $625 million military aid package for Ukraine
U.S. President Joe Biden in a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a new $625 million military aid package.
Here's What We Know
A press release appeared on the White House website stating that Biden had a phone conversation with Zelensky. The U.S. president confirmed that the White House would never recognize the annexation of Ukrainian territories where Russia had held referendums. The Pentagon website then published a detailed list of weapons that are included in the new military aid package:
- four M142 HIMARS with rocket-propelled grenades;
- 16 howitzers (155 mm);
- 75,000 artillery shells (155 mm);
- 500 high-precision shells (155 mm);
- 1,000 RAAM remote anti-tank mines (155 mm);
- 16 howitzers (105 mm);
- 30,000 mines (120 mm);
- Claymore anti-personnel mines;
- 200,000 rounds of small arms ammunition;
- 200 MaxxPro armored vehicles;
- additional equipment.
What howitzers the U.S. plans to transfer to Ukraine is not yet specified. In the case of 155-mm artillery pieces, it is probably the M777. As for the high-precision shells, the Excalibur is most likely meant. Together with HIMARS, Ukraine will receive a batch of GMLRS high-precision rockets, but the number is not specified.
