Owners of Mercedes-Benz electric cars will be able to increase engine power by 20-24% with a $1200-a-year Acceleration Increase subscriptionBMWMW announced this year that some options in electric cars will be available for a $18-a-month subscription. For example, heated seats. Another German automobile giant, Mercedes-Benz, has decided to take the same route.

Here's What We Know

The company will allow owners of Mercedes-EQ EQE and Mercedes-EQ EQS electric cars to increase engine power by 20-24%. Such an option will appear in the Acceleration Increase subscription, which will cost $1200 annually.

The increased engine power will increase torque and reduce acceleration time from zero to 60 mph (96.56 km/h) by about 1 second. All of this will be done programmatically through a firmware upgrade. No hardware changes will have to be made to the configuration of the machines.

We can say that Mercedes-Benz has intentionally reduced the engine power to sell users a subscription and get extra income. On the other hand, the amount of $1200 is not huge, considering that the car costs more than $100,000. But there is still a residue.
