Tesla will make Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg Germany's largest automaker, capable of producing 1 million electric vehicles per year
Tesla's Berlin plant will soon become the largest car manufacturing facility in Germany. The American manufacturer intends to double the area of Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg.
Here's What We Know
Tesla has submitted documents to the authorities requesting the expansion of Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg. The project must be approved after an environmental assessment has been completed, but the company has already received permission for some changes. A public discussion involving Brandenburg residents is scheduled for mid-autumn this year.
Environmental groups believed that the construction of the Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg would have a negative impact on wildlife, water reserves and forests. It is likely that these issues will be raised again when the expansion of the plant is discussed.
Tesla has already assured that the expansion of the plant will not require additional volumes of fresh water. This is due to the fact that the American company's factory has tools to recycle wastewater.
At the Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg, the production of the Model Y is set up. It is this electric crossover that became the most popular car in Europe at the beginning of 2023. The expansion of the plant will allow the company to produce 1 million electric cars per year, which is approximately 20,000 units per week. Production as of March this year was 5,000 cars per week.
