HIMARS once again destroyed a quartet of Russian Msta-S self-propelled 152mm howitzers in Ukraine

In early July, we wrote how the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed four Russian Msta-S howitzers with the help of HIMARS. A month later, the Defence Forces performed the same trick.

Here's What We Know

The Ukrainian Armed Forces have been using American M142 HIMARS systems for counter-battery warfare for several weeks now. The highly mobile artillery rocket system was used to destroy four more Msta-S howitzers in Donetsk region.

The advantage of HIMARS against Russian artillery is the range of fire. The US supplies Ukraine with GMLRS precision-guided munitions with a maximum launch range of about 80 kilometres. By comparison, the Msta-S can hit targets at a distance of up to 30 kilometres.

HIMARS is primarily designed to suppress enemy artillery systems. However, last year the Armed Forces of Ukraine were able to significantly reduce the number of ammunition depots and disrupt the logistics of the Russian army with the help of the American complex.
