A robot courier helped police arrest two Los Angeles residents who tried to kidnap it, but the company may now be in trouble

Serve Robotics is an American company that delivers food for the Uber Eats service in Los Angeles. It is clear from the name that it uses robots as couriers. Recently, one of them was attempted to be kidnapped.

According to 404 Media, the LAPD has apprehended two intruders who wanted to kidnap the robot. Correspondence between Serve Robotics and law enforcement officials suggests that the company gave police officers a video recorded on the robotic courier's camera.

Aduke Thelwell, Serve Robotics' head of communications, said it is the company's policy to regularly delete robot videos. However, police demanded the footage before deleting it.

Serve Robotics CEO Ali Kashani described the situation as atypical. He emphasised that the company adheres to a number of principles in its operations, including not using robots for surveillance.

Neither Adiuk Telwell nor Ali Kashani said how long Serve Robotics keeps the videos. They also did not explain how the company intends to respond to requests for video footage in the future. The robot courier incident raises concerns about the use of such devices for human surveillance.
