Chrome OS security update removes all data from the device

Chrome OS is not in high demand in our region, but it has undeniable advantages, for example, security. Automatic system updates, trusted boot and encryption of the system drive will protect your Chromebook from attacks. Also, many models use the Trusted Platform Module, which generates keys to protect local data.

Who seeks will always find

Hackers discovered a vulnerability that gives access to user files. Fortunately, vulnerability is not fatal. To generate a key to protection, a cracker will need 140 processor years. Almost all "Khrombuki" with the latest version of the Infineon TPM chip are subject to hacking ( full list ). To find out the TPM version, go to chrome: // system, TPM (CTRL + F) and click "Extend" next to TPM Version.

The main thing is protection

Google decided to fix this defect by releasing a security update. Unfortunately, the device module TPM involves a complete cleaning of the device when upgrading. Given this, Google made it optional.

To install the update, you must click "Restart to update" in the settings, after the reboot, select "Update the firmware for additional security" and confirm the data reset. If your device does not have state-of-the-art data that you are afraid of losing, it's worth upgrading for added reliability.
