Raytheon and Rafael will build a plant in the US to produce Tamir and SkyHunter missile interceptors for the Iron Dome air defence system
The US will have a new plant for the production of missile interceptors. This was announced by the company RTX.
Here's What We Know
Raytheon and Rafael will build a facility to produce Tamir anti-aircraft missiles and the US equivalent of the SkyHunter for the Iron Dome short-range air defence system. The new plant will appear in the state of Arkansas.
The companies will invest $33 million to establish the new site in East Camden through the Raytheon-Rafael Area Protection Systems joint venture. The new plant will produce missile interceptors for the U.S. Marine Corps and allies.
The facility will support U.S. military forces and U.S. allies around the world who use Iron Dome air defence systems. Tom Laliberty, president of Land & Air Defence at Raytheon, said.
Construction of the new Arkansas facility will begin by the end of 2023. If all goes according to plan, Raytheon-Rafael Area Protection Systems will begin production of the SkyHunter and Tamir anti-aircraft missiles in 2025.
The US Marine Corps uses Iron Dom systems with SkyHunter interceptors in its MRIC (Medium Range Intercept Capability) programme. At the same time, the US Army has two Iron Dome batteries in Washington, DC, but has agreed to transfer them to Israel.
