Rocket Lab will launch the Venus Life Finder mission in a year to search for biomarkers on Venus
Rocket Lab is preparing to launch a mission to search for signs of life on Venus. The company has already picked a date.
Here's What We Know
Rocket Lab will launch a mission to the second planet of the solar system on 30 December 2024. This was announced during a meeting of the Venus exploration team by Christopher Mandy, the company's chief systems engineer.
The mission is called Venus Life Finder. It is privately funded and was originally scheduled for May 2023. That said, the mission is still a side project for Rocket Lab.
The Venus Life Finder will deliver a 315kg spacecraft to Venus. It will be used to search for organic compounds in the clouds of the neighbouring planet. The spacecraft will be orbited by an Electron rocket and will reach Venus by mid-May 2015.
