The US Congress has renewed a $1bn allocation for the development of the sixth-generation F/A-XX deck-mounted fighter jet

The US Navy is developing a sixth-generation fighter aircraft in parallel with the US Air Force. The aircraft project for the US Navy will receive funding of $1bn.

Here's What We Know

The National Defence Appropriations Act for 2024 provides $1 billion for the development of the sixth-generation fighter for the US Navy. Congress decided to renew funding for the programme.

The aircraft is known so far only as the F/A-XX. It will be a replacement for the fourth-generation F/A-18 Super Hornet. Initially, the budget request for the programme included an amount of $2.1 billion. However, earlier in 2023, the House Armed Services Committee cut funding by $1.1 billion.
