Microsoft to allocate €3.2bn to develop artificial intelligence in Germany

Microsoft has pledged to spend €3.2 billion ($3.4 billion) on artificial intelligence infrastructure and data centres in Germany over the next two years.

Microsoft president Brad Smith said demand for computing in Germany is growing as more industries show interest in artificial intelligence.

According to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, investment will boost AI development. He also emphasised the openness of the country's economy.

"Microsoft's billion-dollar investment in Germany announced today is very good news for Germany as a business location" he stated.

The US corporation has also pledged to help more than 1.2 million workers gain digital skills by the end of 2025. This will include obtaining the country's first professional certificate in generative AI.

The investment is Microsoft's largest single investment in Germany since the company entered the German market in 1983.
