The US says China is technologically many years behind them
US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo has said that China is still far behind the United States in semiconductor technology, despite Huawei's latest breakthrough.
Here's What We Know
Raimondo stressed that the chip export strategy implemented by the Biden government is proving to be effective, and the US will continue to protect its national security, especially in the context of semiconductors.
Chinese officials have repeatedly condemned the policy that any company in the world must have a licence to sell products with advanced technology developed in the US to countries considered "geopolitical adversaries".
She noted that Huawei, which is on the US blacklist, has released the Mate 60 Pro smartphone with a 5G chip, but this does not change the situation with regard to China's technological lag. According to Raimondo, the US has the most advanced semiconductors in the world.
The Department of Commerce is also actively working to develop the US domestic semiconductor industry and strengthen competitiveness in this area.
It is worth recalling that the global technology race has become even more intense since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The United States and its allies have tightened controls over the export of advanced technologies to prevent their possible use against them.
