Qualcomm's claims regarding the performance of the Snapdragon X Elite chip were not entirely honest
Qualcomm recently showed impressive test results for its new Snapdragon X Elite chip. However, there are doubts about the reliability of this data.
Here's What We Know
According to Qualcomm, new Windows-on-Arm-based laptops with the Snapdragon X Elite chip will compete with Intel's processors and Apple's M-series chips. But the company did not provide details on how the tests were conducted, and the comparison charts have not been verified.
When OEMs received the new X-Series chip, they couldn't even come close to the numbers Qualcomm showed the press. From the beginning of testing, the results in the numbers were not even 50% of the total numbers claimed. In response to this difference, Qualcomm engineers blamed poor Windows-on-Arm optimisation and insufficient device cooling. Even after improving the cooling system, significant results could not be obtained.
Qualcomm also avoided answering more technical questions about their upcoming Snapdragon X series. They promised detailed technical briefings before the launch, which they said is scheduled for mid-2024.
The company also announced the Snapdragon X Plus, a stripped down and more affordable version of the previously announced Snapdragon X Elite chip. However, the announcement also allegedly lacked the in-depth technical elements that were originally promised. More time was spent on the potential camera specs provided by the SoC than any real technical stats or in-depth analysis.
