Apple wants to develop a foldable iPhone with a screen capable of self-healing

Apple has filed a patent for a foldable screen that can self-repair from scratches and dents without user intervention or external stimuli.

This patent points to one potential feature of a future foldable device from Apple. The patent describes a device with a foldable screen capable of self-healing, which could be anything from a laptop or tablet to a smartphone, monitor, or wearable device.

The self-healing material, which can repair scratches and dents, can cover the entire display layer or just the flexible/bendable part of the display. Apple also describes how the repair happens: self-healing can occur in a layer of self-healing material without commands (e.g., when a coating gets dented, the coating material can fill the dent even without external intervention).

The ability to self-heat could occur during wired/wireless charging or on a pre-determined schedule. This would be a great idea for foldable phone screens, as their plastic nature makes them more prone to scratches than conventional glass screens.
