Samsung has won a victory in a patent lawsuit involving Bixby and Galaxy Buds.
In a legal battle that could have seriously affected Samsung's business, the company has won an important victory. A US court has dismissed a patent infringement lawsuit filed against the South Korean tech giant. The lawsuit was related to the use of audio technology in products such as Bixby and Galaxy Buds.
Here's What We Know
The plaintiff, Synergy IP Pte, a company founded by former high-ranking Samsung employee Ahn Seung-ho, alleged that Samsung illegally used technology owned by audio firm Statern. Ahn Seung-ho, who previously handled patent matters at Samsung, accused his former employer of infringing ten patents related to audio products.
However, the court concluded that the claim could not be satisfied, as the fact of patent infringement itself was not proven. In addition, it was reported that Ahn Seung-ho stole confidential Statern data from Samsung using the help of the company's intellectual property official, who was previously his subordinate. This information was used to file a patent infringement lawsuit against Samsung.
This court decision was a significant relief for Samsung, as it avoided potentially huge licence payments and preserved the company's reputation in the industry. As such, Samsung will continue to develop its innovative audio technology, strengthening its position in the market.
