The US Congress has drafted a defence budget for 2025 without any assistance to Ukraine
The new Pentagon budget bill for 2025 provides for the cancellation of military aid to Ukraine and Israel.
Here's What We Know
The US has begun preparing to discuss the next budget for 2025. It may seem too early, but this is due to the peculiarity of the US fiscal year. It doesn't start on 1 January, but on 1 October, meaning that there are several months left before the new period begins.
The lower house of the US parliament's defence spending commission has published its first draft budget of $833 billion, which is $53 billion less than this year's. It is worth noting that the bill will be discussed, changed, and amended. However, the most important thing is that this first draft includes the cancellation of aid to Ukraine, and there is a direct ban on arms supplies to Israel.
However, this is not about the US federal budget for assistance to Ukraine, which recently allocated $61 billion. We are talking about $300 million under the USAI programme, the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative. This is an initiative to promote Ukraine's security, which is directly included in the US defence budget.
Therefore, the project does not cancel the $13.8 billion in separate funding for the purchase of weapons for the Armed Forces, or the $23.2 billion allocated to the Pentagon this fiscal year to replenish defence goods and services provided to Ukraine. It also does not include $1.6 billion in Foreign Military Financing, under which Ukraine can purchase arms from the United States for this amount free of charge.
