Russia is forcing African migrants and students to fight against Ukraine
Russia is forcing thousands of African migrants and students to join the army and fight against Ukraine.
Here's What We Know
According to Bloomberg, Russian officials have threatened not to renew the visas of African migrant workers and students unless they join the Russian Armed Forces.
Some African workers have even been threatened with deportation if they do not agree to fight in Ukraine, a European official told the newspaper. In addition, some have resorted to bribing Russian officials to stay out of the conflict.
This is not the first time that a terrorist country has resorted to ambiguous and controversial recruitment measures to replenish its occupation forces.
It is worth noting that Russia wants to "play" a war of attrition, so it also constantly uses its prisoners to fuel its military efforts. In October, Russian Deputy Justice Minister Vsevolod Vukolov said that the number of prisoners in the country had fallen to a historic low of 266,000, The Washington Post reported. Before the war, the number of prisoners in Russia was 420,000.
