The EU creates a body to control the funds allocated to Ukraine under the Ukraine Facility

The European Commission will establish an Audit Board for the Ukraine Facility to oversee EU funding to prevent fraud, corruption, conflicts of interest and irregularities.

Here's What We Know

Some time ago, the EU allocated EUR 50 billion to Ukraine under the Ukraine Facility programme, so now the Audit Board will assess the systems that Ukraine has in place to prevent, eliminate, report and effectively review, investigate and prosecute possible cases of fraud, corruption, conflict of interest and any other irregularities in relation to any expenditure.

The body will operate until 30 June 2028 and will consist of three members appointed by the European Commission from among EU citizens with proven experience in the field of audit or financial monitoring for a two-year term.

The Board is to visit Ukraine at least six times a year and prepare a report every three months with recommendations for Ukraine to improve the management and control system of funding under the Ukraine Facility.

"Information received or made known to the Board on any identified cases or serious concerns regarding the mismanagement of expenditure financed under the Ukraine Facility shall be immediately transmitted to the Commission," the document says.
