Autosport: Renault may stop making engines for the Alpine F1 team

Alpine could lose its status as a factory Formula 1 team.

Here's What We Know

Information shared by the publication Autosport. According to the source, the management of Renault is thinking about ceasing to produce engines for bolides Alpine. The company has recognised that recently they have lagged far behind in the efficiency of motors from their competitors and are unlikely to be able to reduce the gap until 2026.

Alpine A524 Bolide

The French manufacturer is now considering a plan that could see Renault abandon work on the 2026 power unit and instead move Alpine to a customer team. Alpine chief Bruno Famin is already in talks with rival manufacturers.

Alpine sees Red Bull as one of the main contenders for this role. By the way, now Honda is engaged in supplying engines for Red Bull, but from 2026 the team plans to transfer bolides to their own power units.

If the agreement with Red Bull will not work out, then, perhaps, bolides Alpine will use the engine Mercedes.
