Amazon is abandoning plastic airbags in its packages
Amazon has announced a significant reduction in the use of plastic air cushions in its packaging in the North American market. The online giant has switched to a 95% cover paper filler.
Here's What We Know
The corporation plans to completely stop using plastic airbags by the end of this year.
Amazon noted that this step is aimed at reducing unnecessary waste and increasing the use of recycled materials in its packaging. This decision comes amid growing awareness of the threat of plastic pollution to the environment, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, when packaging volumes have increased significantly.
The non-governmental organisation Ocean Conservancy has already expressed concerns about plastic waste generated by e-commerce, highlighting the need for further measures to protect the environment.
