Proton releases its own version of Google Docs with end-to-end encryption
Proton has announced the release of its own version of Google Docs in its Drive cloud storage.
Here's What We Know
Proton Docs, like the company's other products, offers end-to-end encryption, making it an ideal choice for the healthcare, media, finance, and legal services sectors. The new service allows users to create, open and edit documents in a variety of formats, including Microsoft .docx, and has collaboration tools similar to Google Docs.
Users can invite others to view and edit documents, even if they do not have a Proton account, and communicate through comments. They can also see the presence of other participants and their cursor locations in real time to enable effective collaboration.
Proton did not disclose whether they plan to release similar versions of other Google Workspace applications, but the company is actively expanding its suite of tools, including a VPN, encrypted calendar, and password manager.
Proton Docs will be available to users in the coming days.
