The US Army is looking to purchase the latest ground drone to support infantry

The US Army has issued a tender for a new unmanned infantry support platform to address logistical gaps.

Here's What We Know

"The Army is looking for an unmanned vehicle that is larger than the Small Multipurpose Equipment Transport (SMET) but smaller than the Palletised Load System (PLS)," said Kevin Mills, Deputy Director of the Army Combat Capability Development Command.

It is worth noting that SMET is an eight-wheeled drone that can carry up to 453 kilograms of cargo, while PLS is a truck-based logistics system for large loads.

Mills explained that there was a gap between the two platforms and this led to the need for the Medium Multipurpose Equipment Transport (MMET) programme. More information about the characteristics of the future drone will soon be available.

"I'm hoping to do some experiments to help refine the requirements, but it's very early stages," he said.
