Samsung, Xiaomi and other prominent tech brands are accused of violating India's antitrust laws

Samsung and other smartphone brands like Motorola, Realme, OnePlus, Vivo and Xiaomi are accused of colluding with online retailers Amazon and Flipkart to launch exclusive smartphones on these platforms.

Here's What We Know

According to a report by the Competition Commission of India (CCI), Amazon and Flipkart gave preferential treatment to selected retailers, which violates local competition laws. The report alleges that Amazon colluded with five smartphone brands, including Samsung, violating competition laws, while Flipkart partnered with Lenovo, Motorola, Realme, Samsung, Vivo and Xiaomi to do the same.

The CCI may impose fines on these companies in the coming months. Some of the accused brands, including Samsung, were required to submit their financial statements for the last 3 financial years. The practice has raised concerns as it goes against the principles of free and fair competition.
