Electronic Arts' Black Panther game uses innovative design and storytelling techniques - perhaps an analogue to the Nemesis system
It is known that Electronic Arts and Cliffhanger Games studio A job at Electronic Arts has revealed that the game based on the Black Panther comics will feature a dynamic open world about Black Panther from the Marvel universe.
The authors are not yet sharing details of the game, but at a global investor event, EA Entertainment & Technology President Laura Miele made an interesting statement.
Here's What We Know
Laura Miele mentioned that Cliffhanger Games, a studio run by Kevin Stephens, the former head of Monolith Studios, plans to use innovative design and storytelling techniques in Black Panther. She said that gamers will be treated to colourful characters, a compelling story that won't be a retelling of existing stories, and unusual mechanics.
Taking into account that Kevin Stevens led the development of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and its sequel Shadow of War, media representatives suggested that under innovative technologies Laura Miele means an analogue of the Nemesis system, which in Middle-earth guaranteed that after each fight, regardless of its outcome, the balance of power in the orc hierarchy changed: they could get a promotion, die, acquire phobias and weaknesses, or go for unexpected cooperation with the protagonist.
It is possible that Black Panther will use a similar system to make each playthrough unique and add unpredictability to the game. Especially in the age of generative AI, the Nemesis concept could be seriously developed. The only problem is that Warner Bros. owns the patent for Nemesis, but given their long-standing partnership with EA, the companies may find a compromise or the developers will create a new similar system.
