Analogue of Ukrainian Palianytsia: UK develops its own drone missile Brakestop, capable of hitting objects at a distance of 500 km
The UK Ministry of Defence has issued a tender to develop a new low-cost, mass-produced surface-to-surface weapon.
Here's What We Know
The war in Ukraine has shown the importance and effectiveness of drones in modern warfare. According to unconfirmed information, it was the Ukraine showed the first video of the launch of the Palianytsia long-range attack drone missile jet Palianytsia " (Palianytsia), equipped with a turbojet engine, extravaganza hit Russian ammunition storage bases in the Tver region and Krasnodar Krai.
In many countries, weapons makers are thinking about their own similar projects and it seems that a new tender announced in the UK involves the development of a missile drone.
The concept is called Brakestop and not much information is known about it at the moment. The technical requirements of the Ministry of Defence specify the following parameters:
- flight range: up to 500 km;
- flight speed: about 600 km/h;
- payload: 200 to 300kg, equivalent to a Mk 82 bomb;
- resistance to electronic warfare and the ability to operate in GPS-free environments.
The project aims to create a system capable of operating in complex combat conditions, providing high precision strikes. It is planned that serial production will begin by September 2025, and 20 units of this weapon will be produced each month.
According to preliminary estimates, one missile will cost £400,000 (almost $500,000).
