China is trying to create a radar that can track the F-22 stealth fighter

China is developing a low-cost radar system that can detect and track the US F-22 Raptor, one of the world's most advanced stealth fighters.

Researchers involved in the development process told the South China Morning Post that the new radar uses a single receiving antenna, making it cheaper to produce and easier to deploy.

It also uses Beijing's BeiDou navigation satellite system to effectively track enemy aircraft. In addition, the low-cost radar does not emit signals, minimising the risk of detecting its own location and being jammed by enemies.

The developers said that they recently tested the system against a hypothetical F-22 target, demonstrating its ability to detect refraction patterns caused by stealth fighters.

Lockheed Martin's F-22 is known for its ability to evade radar and air defences thanks to its advanced stealth capabilities.

The refraction it emits is often weak, especially when it is obscured by buildings and trees. And to address this problem, Chinese scientists claim to have applied a new "blind detection" method that allows them to detect stealth target signals even in the presence of obstacles.
