Best for selfies: iPhone 16 Pro Max tops DxOMark's front-facing camera rankings

DxOMark's ranking of the best selfie cameras has a new leader. Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max took the first place in the ranking for taking selfies, scoring 151 points. It surpassed Google Pixel 9 Pro XL and shared the first place with Honor Magic 6 Pro.

DxOMark experts noted the wide dynamic range and accurate exposure of the iPhone 16 Pro Max front camera. The autofocus of the device was also found to be reliable, and the depth of field - wide enough.

In the tests, the smartphone demonstrated a high level of detail in both photo and video modes, with correct separation of faces at different shooting distances. However, despite the high scores, DxOMark noted that the noise level in photos and videos from the iPhone 16 Pro Max front camera is higher than that of the Honor Magic 6 Pro. The Google Pixel 9 Pro XL also handles noise better, but Apple's new flagship still slightly outperforms the iPhone 15 Pro Max in this regard. Experts also noticed a difference in sharpness between video frames while walking.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max scored 149 points in the photo test and 155 points in the video. The final score of 151 points makes this smartphone the leader in the front camera category.
