PlayStation 5 Pro offers easy access to critical components, iFixit disassembly confirms
The recently released PS5 Pro has been disassembled at iFixit. While iFixit doesn't provide repairability estimates for game consoles, the disassembly revealed a few important details.
Here's What We Know
One of the key features is easy access to the CMOS battery, which is responsible for powering some of the chip components responsible for time and date, hardware settings, etc.
In the standard PS5 and PS5 Slim, this battery is located under the main board, making it difficult to replace. In the PS5 Pro, the battery is located under the main console cover and is protected by a separate plate that can be removed with just one screw. This makes it much easier to replace the battery if it should fail.
Additionally, no tools are required to access and clean the fans either. Overall, the PS5 Pro is just as repairable as its predecessors and even surpasses them in some aspects.
