Mitsuoka M55: getting a chance to buy a Honda Civic with Dodge Challenger design will only be possible through a lottery

Japanese manufacturer Mitsuoka, known for its wacky projects, has reminded itself again. The company announced a commercial version of the M55 model, which was announced as a concept last year. The car was priced at ¥8,085,000, or about $52,000. But demand is high, and a total of 100 cars will be produced, so the right to make a purchase will be drawn in a lottery.

Here's What We Know

Mitsuoka has taken a practical approach to creating a retro-styled hatchback, taking inspiration from the 11th-generation Honda Civic. The design of the M55 has Dodge Challenger characteristics, although technically it's still a Civic with a modified 'wrapper'. Under the bonnet, it has a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine that produces 180bhp of power and 240Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 6-speed manual, front-wheel drive.

The front part of the M55 is completely redesigned. There are headlights, stylised under Dodge Challenger, as well as an extended grille. Black wheels with Michelin tyres complete the image. At the rear - original lights and bumper, reminiscent of the legend of the American car industry. The interior is mostly left from Civic, though Mitsuoka has added a little luxury: seats are covered with blue leather, and Honda logo on the steering wheel was replaced with its own.

A deposit of ¥550,000 (about $3,500) is required to enter the lottery. Winners will be announced on 19 January, after which they will be able to place an order for the car to be made.
