Russian army is now bigger, but its quality has deteriorated - Chairman of NATO Military Committee

Admiral Rob Bauer, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, said that although the Russian army is now larger than it was two years ago, its quality has deteriorated significantly during the war.

Here's What We Know

According to him, the condition of Russia's military equipment and the training of its soldiers have deteriorated since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

He stressed that Moscow no longer poses the same threat as in February 2022, "so we have some time to prepare." Bauer also called for increased investment in defence to meet or exceed Russia's military capabilities.

In addition, he urged European companies to adjust their production and distribution lines to be ready for a wartime scenario.

"If we can ensure that all essential services and goods are available, no matter what, that will be a key part of our deterrence," Bauer said.

It is worth noting that, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russia has suffered more than 700,000 military losses so far. An average of 1531 per day during the first 17 days of November 2024. The country has also lost more than 3,500 tanks, 140 helicopters, 130 aircraft and 8,500 armoured vehicles, based on data released by the UK Ministry of Defence.

Despite these staggering losses, Lithuania's military intelligence service warned last year that Moscow may still have enough resources to sustain the war for another two years. Additionally, a German intelligence report raised concerns that Russia could regain strength and potentially double its military capabilities over the next five years.
