The Turkish defence company Repkon has signed an agreement with Pakistan's Wah Industries Limited (WIL) to set up a 155mm artillery shell production line in Pakistan.
Here's What We Know
This cooperation envisages the production of up to 120,000 shells annually. The agreement was officially signed during the 12th International Defence Exhibition and Seminar held in Pakistan this month. WIL, which operates under the Pakistan Ordnance Factories, is responsible for supplying the Pakistani armed forces and exporting military products.
The US is also strengthening its own ammunition production: Repkon USA has signed a $435 million contract with the US Department of Defence. They plan to create a domestic production line for artillery, including TNT. According to Douglas Bush, Assistant Secretary of Defence, the resumption of TNT production is a strategic step to strengthen control over the supply chain and reduce dependence on foreign suppliers.
The US plans to increase monthly ammunition production from 30,000 to 100,000 units by the end of next year. This should meet domestic demand and increase military support for Ukraine, The Wall Street Journal reports.
Such initiatives demonstrate how countries are seeking to ensure a stable supply of ammunition amid growing global threats.
