Back in December 2022, it became known that Death Stranding would receive a film adaptation. And now Hideo Kojima, the game's creator and founder of Kojima Productions, has spoken about how he wants to see this film.
Here's What We Know
He aims to introduce a new dimension to cinematic adaptation that goes beyond simply turning a game into a feature film.
It's a lofty goal, but not completely unattainable
Kojima also understands that it's easier to adapt a show like The Last of Us, but taking Death Stranding with 50-60 hours of game play and compressing it into a three-hour film is a real challenge.
The worldview, of course, will not change. But the story of the game as it is won't fit into two or three hours.
In general, Hideo wants to make something that is based on a game, but is also an indie film and an art film, something that can win awards at film festivals such as Cannes, Venice or Sundance.
When We Can Expect It
The premiere of the film is still unknown, but Death Stranding: On The Beach will be released in 2025 on PlayStation 5.
