According to a well-known insider Tom Henderson, Ubisoft plans to significantly update the Far Cry series by developing two new projects at once: Far Cry 7 (codenamed Blackbird) and the multiplayer game Maverick. Both games are being developed by Ubisoft Montreal and will be powered by the new Snowdrop engine, abandoning the previous Dunia.

Here's What We Know

In Far Cry 7, players will have to rescue their family, kidnapped by the Sons of Truth cult. The player will have 72 hours of game time (24 hours in real time) to complete the mission, and the time countdown will be displayed on the character's watch. The game promises a non-linear storyline where the player's actions will influence the development of events.

The multiplayer project Maverick will be an action game in the extraction shooter genre set in Alaska. Players will have to fight against other players, wildlife, and harsh weather conditions, collecting resources for survival. The game will support both single and team modes, with the ability to share storage and loot.

Both projects will receive an updated movement system, including tactical running, sliding, and climbing over obstacles, which will add dynamics and realism to the gameplay. The release of both games is tentatively scheduled for 2026, which demonstrates Ubisoft's commitment to thoroughly work out innovations and ensure good product quality.

These changes demonstrate Ubisoft's intention to move away from the established templates of the Far Cry series and offer players a fresh experience focused on the story and interesting mechanics.
