The first buyers of Xiaomi Mi 1 have already received almost $31,000,000
At the launch of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 4, the company's CEO said that the first buyers of the Mi 1 model will get a full refund (~$310) on the anniversary of the smartphone. Approximately 100,000 users have already received the "gift".
How much was the refund?
Xiaomi Mi 1 went on sale in 2011 for 1,999 yuan or $310. In total, the company made 370 million yuan or $57 million. But 10 years later, it decided to return all the proceeds to customers. True, you can only spend the money in a Xiaomi branded store.
According to the company, almost 100,000 Xiaomi Mi 1 owners have already handed out envelopes. Multiplying this number by the cost, we get quite an impressive sum - about $31 million. Xiaomi has about $26 million more to return, ie the equator has already been passed. In total about 185,000 smartphones have been sold.
Recall, Xiaomi Mi 1 has become an affordable alternative to Apple, Samsung and HTC flagships. It got a 2-core Qualcomm MSM8260 chip with up to 1.7GHz, 1GB of RAM and 4GB of storage. The arsenal also includes an 8MP camera, a 1930 mAh battery and a 4" screen made by Sharp.
