San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu is asking California regulators to halt the expansion of robotaxi services in the city from Waymo and Cruise.
Here's What We Know
Chiu has filed a petition with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) asking it to suspend a decision allowing Waymo and Cruise to expand robotaxi service. He argues it will lead to increased traffic and unscheduled stops.
"We have seen that this technology is not yet ready, and poor [autonomous vehicle (AV)] performance has interfered with the life-saving operations of first responders." - Chiu said.
He added that San Francisco would suffer serious damage from such a seamless expansion.
