Chinese company Baidu has announced a new version of its Ernie 4.0 artificial intelligence model. According to the developers, it competes with GPT-4 and other advanced AI.
Here's What We Know
Baidu CEO Robin Li demonstrated Ernie 4.0 at the annual Baidu World conference in Beijing. He said the model features understanding, reasoning, memory and generation functions, which uses algorithms to produce and create new content.
Li said Ernie 4.0 is able to understand complex questions and instructions, and apply reasoning and logic to generate answers to questions. The model is in no way inferior to the GPT-4, he asserted.
During the demonstration, Lee asked Ernie 4.0 to generate promotional materials as well as come up with a martial arts novel with characters with different personalities.
For now, the model is available to a limited number of users. Li said Baidu plans to introduce artificial intelligence technology into its search engine, maps, cloud discs, and business intelligence for corporate clients. At the same time, he did not give a specific timeline.
