British schoolchildren are using artificial intelligence to create indecent images of other pupils, a panel of child abuse and technology experts has warned.
Here's What We Know
Emma Hardy of the UK Safer Internet Centre noted the frightening realism of such images - their quality is comparable to professional school photographs. 'This poses a risk of victims being recognised and then content being distributed to strangers on the internet.
"The potential for abuse of this technology is terrifying" she said.
According to experts, schools should urgently improve systems for blocking banned content and educate. Children probably do not yet fully realise the harm of such AI experiments. But reports that have emerged suggest the problem could grow quickly.
Images of child sexual abuse, including those created with AI, are banned in the UK. This also applies to cartoon or other less realistic pictures.
