Netherlands-based TomTom, a developer of digital maps and navigation services, has started creating a conversational assistant for cars. The partner is Microsoft Corporation.
Here's What We Know
According to the idea, the AI-assistant will allow drivers to naturally communicate with the car. It will be integrated into the car's multimedia systems, as well as a separate Digital Cockpit platform from TomTom.
The assistant is being developed using Microsoft's Azure OpenAI cloud service, which provides access to the company's powerful OpenAI language models, particularly ChatGPT.
TomTom has previously released a plug-in for ChatGPT that integrates the capabilities of the chatbot and mapping platform. Now the company sees the prospect of applying generative AI directly to cars.
TomTom and Microsoft have been collaborating since 2016 on navigation and location technology.
