Apple is in talks with major publishers and media outlets about the possibility of using their content to train a generative artificial intelligence system under development.

Here's What We Know

According to the NYT, Apple is willing to pay media companies for years of access to their news archives. We are talking about deals worth at least $50 million.

Some publishers are concerned about the consequences of wide licensing of their materials. According to them, it could lead to legal problems and competition from Apple.

At the same time, the iPhone maker has won the favour of media companies by initially asking permission to use content and expressing willingness to pay for it.

Earlier, Apple had a long discussion about where to get data for the development of generative AI. Given the company's privacy principles, they were hesitant to use information collected on the internet.
