A research team led by Professor Chang-hyun Kim of the Korea Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Materials (KIMM) has created the world's first artificial intelligence technology that enables robots to be used effectively in manufacturing.

Here's What We Know

The development is based on combining the capabilities of an AI language model and a virtual environment. It understands user commands and generates action sequences for robots.

In particular, the system is able to automatically recognise objects, choose the optimal movement trajectory, and avoid collisions. In addition, it allows robots to be trained to perform tasks in virtual space before being deployed in real production.

According to the developers, this eliminates the need to reconfigure the entire workspace to suit the needs of robots, which has severely limited their application so far.

At the moment, the AI technology for robot control is being tested at the production of electronic components and parts for electric cars in Korea. There are plans to expand its application to other factories in the future.

The head of the project, Professor Kim, said that the new development will help improve working conditions at production facilities by automating routine operations.
