OpenAI will start adding hidden C2PA standard watermarks to the metadata of images generated by the DALL-E 3 service, as part of the Content Authentication Coalition initiative, whose members include Microsoft, Adobe and other technology companies.

Here's What We Know

From 12 February, all image files from DALL-E on the ChatGPT website and API will contain special tags with information about the AI tool used to create the image. There will also be a visible CR (Content Credentials) logo in the upper left corner.

Users will be able to verify the provenance of any image from OpenAI by uploading it to services like Content Credentials Verify. For now, the technology only recognises static images, but not video or text.

As assured in OpenAI, the addition of hidden labels will not affect the speed of DALL-E 3 or the quality of generated images. The size of image files will only slightly increase.

However, the company admitted that C2PA metadata can be easily deleted either accidentally or intentionally. In addition, most social networks automatically remove them when content is uploaded.
