We have already written that F-35A Lightning II fighters of the Royal Norwegian Air Force took off and landed on a public road. The UK Royal Air Force also took part in the exercise in Finland.

Here's What We Know

Unlike Norway, the United Kingdom sent fourth-generation Eurofighter Typhoon FGR.4 fighters to Finland for the Baana 23 exercise. The British aircraft also took off and landed on a public road.

Finland and Scandinavian countries began building general-purpose roads for aircraft take-off and landing in the middle of the last century. Now NATO countries are working on this possibility with an eye on future conflicts when airfields are under attack and could be destroyed.
