Boeing has accelerated the delivery to Israel of 1,000 small-diameter 113kg bombs with a range of over 40km under a $735m contract
Israel will receive 1,000 aerial bombs at an accelerated pace. It is about Small Diameter Bomb produced by Beoing.
Here's What We Know
The American giant was able to expedite the delivery of the bombs after Israel was attacked by Hamas terrorists. Israeli transport planes, rather than American ones, were used for the delivery.
According to Bloomberg, the delivery of SDB is not part of Foreign Military Sale. Israel received the bombs as a Direct Commercial Sale under a contract dated 2021. The amount of the agreement was $735 million.
The SDB weighs 250 pounds or 113kg. The $735 million contract also includes GPS kits to convert conventional bombs into smart bombs. That said, a Pentagon source says the JDAM kits have not yet been delivered to Israel. SDBs with JDAMs will have a launch range of more than 60 kilometres.
Every year Israel receives more than $3 billion in military aid from the US. It is expected that in the near future the Administration of US President Joe Biden will announce additional arms deliveries to Israel. The White House said earlier that the situation in Israel would not affect support for Ukraine.
