Analytical agency Counterpoint has published the results of the US smartphone market research for the third quarter of 2021.

What we know

77% of the market is controlled by two companies. You might have guessed it's Samsung and Apple. They increased shipments by 18% and 9% respectively. The first one's share has increased from 30% to 35% compared to the third quarter of 2020. The second one took 42% of the market versus 39% a year earlier. As you can see, the gap has narrowed from 9% to 7%.

When LG left the market, this allowed Motorola to enter the Top 3. Its share reached 8% (7% a year before). Moreover, the company managed to leave behind TCL, which controls 5% of the market (6% a year before).

The Chinese brand OnePlus also entered the Top 5. Its share is 3%. The other companies in total control 7% of the market (17% a year before). A total of 1% more smartphones were shipped in the reporting period than in the third quarter of 2020.
