Google disables Assistant on smartwatches running Wear OS 2
A few years ago, Google partnered with Samsung to introduce Wear OS 3, an operating system for smart watches. A new version of Wear OS 4 was announced earlier this year at the I/O conference, and the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 was the first to use the platform when it launched this month. But for owners of gadgets running Wear OS 2 and earlier versions, the company has some bad news.
Here's What We Know
In the latest update to the accompanying Wear OS 2 app, a line was found in which Google is urging users to switch to the newer operating system. And that's because the company is discontinuing support for Google Assistant for older versions of Wear OS. Google representatives said that the virtual assistant will work on such watches up to and including 31 August, after which Google Assistant will not be available to users.
Watch owners confirm this information and say they have already received the relevant notifications. Google urged them to switch to watches that support Wear OS 3 and, accordingly, Google Assistant.
Google is announcing that Assistant will soon no longer support smartwatches running Wear OS 2. You'll need to upgrade to a newer watch that runs Wear OS 3 (and that supports Google Assistant).
