Turkey conducted the world's first joint surface drone and UAV operation - Albatros-S kamikaze maritime drone accompanied by Bayraktar TB2 sank a 69-metre vessel
The Turkish Navy and ASELSAN tested a new maritime drone. It was named Albatros-S.
Here's What We Know
The maritime suicide drone is armed with a warhead manufactured by Turkish company Roketsan. As part of the tests Albatros-S was able to successfully hit a 69-metre vessel, which subsequently went to the bottom because of the damage sustained.
The kamikaze drone was tested off the coast of Mersin. The Albatros-S was observed by Turkish Navy Commander Ercüment Tatlıoğlu, President of the Defence Industry Authority Haluk Görgün and ASELSAN CEO Ahmet Akyol.
Turkey's Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was used to target the Albatros-S. The drone was able to record the engagement of the naval target. This is the world's first joint use of a surface drone and UAV.
