Digital Foundry experts have praised the console versions of Diablo IV. They admit that Blizzard's game could be the most optimised project of the year
Digital Foundry experts have analysed the technical state of Diablo IV on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Xbox Series consoles.
Here's What We Know
Experts noted that developers from Blizzard have done an excellent job of optimizing the game for consoles. On PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, Diablo IV impresses with the quality of its graphics and visual effects. Thanks to the high level of detail, every object looks beautiful and realistic.
What pleased Digital Foundry's experts the most was the lighting and shadow play in Diablo IV. Thanks to many small light sources, each location in action-RPG looks unique and atmospheric, even in spite of the absence of ray tracing and other similar technologies.
Technically speaking, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series Diablo IV runs at an internal resolution of around 1260p (it's impossible to pinpoint exactly), but with FSR 2 technology the resolution is converted to 4K.
On the Series S console, the native resolution of 864p converts to 1440p, and the graphics are just as good as on more powerful devices.
On PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, Diablo IV runs steadily at 60 FPS with the exception of rare performance drops, but the action sequences are only played at 30 FPS.
On the PlayStation 4 console, the game is expectedly less impressive than on modern devices. The frame rate does not exceed 30 FPS, but even this figure is not stable and drops are often recorded. On this platform, the game runs at 720p resolution, which converts to 1080p.
In general, Diablo IV is quite possible to play on last generation consoles, but in this case the game is not as technologically advanced and detailed.
As for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, Digital Foundry's experts admitted that the game is in great condition.
