Secrets of Blue Beetle filming: How DC Studios honours the director's vision and partnership with James Gunn
In an interview with TotalFilm, "Blue Beetle" director Angel Manuel Soto opened up about James Gunn's reaction to the final version of the new DC film and how big of a role he played in the creation process.
Here's What He Said
The director shared how DC Studios "respected" his vision and what role James Gunn played in the final version. According to Soto, there were almost no comments from both Gunn and DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran.
"The studio always, generally, has their hands on it. As far as the essence of the story, [James Gunn and Peter Safran] liked what we were doing and they respected the vision and what we were trying to do with the film. They really did appreciate the fresh take, the nostalgic factor of how we start the film by taking the audience to see the family and fall in love with them for a prologue-of-sorts.""
Touching on the theme of "family," something Gunn knows about from his Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, Soto said he took special care to make the characters fully come to life in Jaime Reyes' world.
"We didn't want to treat them like props. We want to give them arcs. They all deserve the attention that we give them. The love that you feel for them makes everything that happen more visceral"
When We Can Expect It
