It's official: Nintendo and Sony Pictures are working on a film based on the iconic video game franchise The Legend of Zelda. Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of the franchise, is directing the film

It's long been rumoured, but now it's official: a film adaptation of one of the most famous and popular gaming franchises, The Legend of Zelda, is in development.

Here's What We Know

Producers of the film will be the creator of The Legend of Zelda - famous game designer Shigeru Miyamoto and the founder and former CEO of Marvel Studios Avi Arad, currently heading Arad Productions.

The film will be directed by Wes Ball, known for The Maze Runner trilogy.

The film's production costs will be shared by Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Shigeru Miyamoto admitted that he had long asked Avi Arad to help in the film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, and finally the project was agreed and the work started.

The game developer stressed that the process will take a long time, but Shigeru Miyamoto hopes that Zelda fans will look forward to the film.

It is not yet known whether the film will be an adaptation of one of the games or tell a standalone story in The Legend of Zelda universe.
